Timeless Treasure: A Journey Beyond the Canvas
Share
Art, for me, is both a question and an answer—a way to explore the world’s complexity and my own place within it. My journey began in Delta State, Nigeria, where the vibrant colors of daily life and the rhythms of Benin City shaped my earliest memories. Now, based in the UK, I find myself weaving together threads of heritage, intuition, and emotion in every piece I create.
The Story Behind the Canvas
Take, for example, the painting above. At first glance, it’s a swirl of bold reds, deep blues, and luminous yellows—forms twisting and folding into each other, refusing to be easily categorized. This is intentional. My work is rooted in expressionism and abstraction, but I strive to move beyond labels, letting each piece become its own visual story.
This painting emerged from a place of reflection—a meditation on connection and transformation. The hands, abstracted and intertwined, represent both struggle and support. They echo the dualities I often explore: harmony and chaos, light and shadow, tradition and change. The colors are not just aesthetic choices; they are emotional cues, guiding the viewer through the painting’s energy and tension.
My Artistic Process: Intuition as Compass
I rarely begin with a fixed plan. Instead, I let intuition lead. Sometimes it’s a memory, a piece of music, or a fleeting feeling that sparks the first brushstroke. I work in layers, building up color and form, then scraping back, revealing what lies beneath. Oil, acrylic, watercolor—each medium brings its own surprises, and I welcome the unexpected.
There’s a dance between control and surrender in my process. I might start with a bold gesture, then step back, letting the painting “speak” before responding. This dialogue continues until the piece feels alive—charged with the emotion and story I want to share.
Why I Paint
Art is my way of connecting—with my roots, with others, and with myself. I believe that every painting is an invitation: to pause, to feel, to see the world a little differently. My hope is that viewers find their own stories in my work, experiencing both the harmony and the chaos that make us human.
